Snow has arrived in most of Wisconsin and the trails are opening up!! Recently Wisconsin implemented a State Trail Pass requirement in addition to your Snowmobile registration ( required for every snowmobile). It is best to apply for other of these items 21 days in advance of your snowmobile trip, however you can purchase these online and use your receipt as a temporary proof. If you find yourself in this situation, be prepared to be stopped by local law enforcement or DNR because you will not have your Trail pass and Registration visible if you pass them on the trail. You also need proof of your Snowmobile Safety Class if you were born after January 1st 1985.

Types of Snowmobile Registration

All snowmobiles kept in Wisconsin for more than 15 consecutive days must be registered in Wisconsin unless an exemption to registration applies. Display — Unless there is an exemption, your snowmobile must display current registration decals, which must be prominently visible on both sides of the cowling.
