Celebrating New Years in the Northwoods of Wisconsin is a magical time, especially this year with all the fluffy snow loaded on the massive pines and house tops. For the 1st time ever we headed North as a family of 4 riders. Our youngest, Lexi, was riding for her 1st time ever solo on the trail after completing her Snowmobile Safety course in December at the Gateway Shop. A week of good eats, a few cold ones and lots of memories made on the trails and in the cabin. Our end of the year trip up north has been a now 14 year tradition, this year it was a tough decision to leave the Gateway shop with the trails open locally ( yeah!!). We left the shop in great hands and the Gateway Crew stepped up and took great care of our customers.
Sayner, WI
Sayner Wisconsin is the home of Sayner Pub, Sayner Pub has delicious food, great bloody Mary’s and a large dining room for big groups. First stop in Sayner at the gas station which carries a huge selection of plugs, belts, carbides and gear. Later in the week we warmed up with cocoa at Stillwaters and snacked on Brat pizza at Hillside Tavern ( rave reviews from the crew)
Sayner Barnstormers did a GREAT job managing the trails all week with the super heavy holiday traffic.
On Guys day the Ladies took a trip to Eagle River to Braywood Resort to have a fun lunch in the igloos, ladies rated the experience a 9 our of 10, igloos were warm and cozy, drinks were cold and laughs were plenty. A trip to Eagle River is not complete without breakfast at Leif’s Cafe, a great family tradition.
St. Germain, WI
On the list of places to make it to this year was definitely Burnt Bridge Tavern, and man our visit(s) did not disappoint. What a fantastic place with a team of fantastic people ( Family at that!). Front The “Home of the wild animal floor show”, the outdoor beer bar, to the parking lot fire ring; it was all part of the magic. Thank you to the Burnt Bridge Family for creating this amazing place in the Northwoods.
On your way through St. Germain make sure stop with the kids at Bauers Dam Resort. These folks also knock it out the park with the personal touches. Lolli pops in the Kiddie Cocktails, Oreos for the littles and the best homemade chicken pot pie in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.
Thank you to all the clubs and volunteers that make these trips possible for all the families and groups. This year we saw the MOST groups riding with families and vintage sleds we have ever seen on this trip, just one more testament that the sport of snowmobiling is alive and well.
Conover , WI
Our favorite in Conover is alway the Log Cabin for Pizza, their deep dish Chicago Style Pizza is delish, word of warning… do ot overeat when the trails are bumpy. The staff at Log Cabin also served us a delicious New Year’s Eve Prime Rib Dinner. Staff is fantastic!
A few other recommendations in Conover Wild Turkey for BBQ, Brews & Bourbon and we rang in the New Year at Sweetwaters on Hwy 45 with some great Live Music.
